Topic of Discussion:  Heat Exchanger Failure and Diagnosis.  This is a course for service technicians.  This course will illustrate the A.G.A. approved testing procedure for determining the integrity for natural gas and propane fired forced air furnaces.  Attendees will become familiar with heat exchanger design and the many techniques for determining failures in heat exchangers.  Also covered will be safety issues for the customer.  A workbook will be provided.

Topic of Discussion:  New Boiler Code (November 6, 2006) & CSD-1 Updates.  Michigan Boiler Code 2005.  Any boiler work contracted AFTER November 6, 2006, falls under the 2005 rules—CSD-1 changes and enforcement—State Boiler inspection changes.  There will be new 2005 Michigan Boiler Code Books available for sale.

Speakers:  Federated Insurance, Optimum Technology, and Rheem Water Heater Division.

Topics of Discussion:  Federated will discuss the topic of “Distracted Driving” with a video presentation, facts on cell phones and driving, and implementing a “Distracted Driving” program in your business.   Information packets will be available.

Optimum Technology will make a short presentation regarding their services.  They will analyze cell phone and land line bills to save you money.

Rheem Water Heater Division will provide a presentation on applications, technical and servicing of tankless water heaters.

Topic of Discussion:  Electric Meter Usage.  The course will explain the types of meters available.  You will also learn how to use a VOM and an ammeter safely, how the troubleshooting process works using the correct meter, how to check single and 3-phase motors, how to read a wiring diagram, why you should never use an ohmmeter on a circuit board with a microprocessor, how to check motor windings on a GE ECM variable speed motor, what is “good” voltage and “bad” voltage, how to check the electrical integrity of relay and contactor coils, how to multiply current and, when it is necessary, how to check thermistors, and how to measure a flame rectified signal (microamperes).
